📚 Family Literacy Night a Big Success!
Clifford Street Math and Technology Magnet School recently hosted a vibrant Family Literacy Night that brought families, students, and staff together for an evening of fun, learning, and community! The event featured interactive stations that promoted reading, writing, vocabulary building, and creative thinking—all designed to make literacy exciting for every student.
Highlights from the Evening:
🎲 Game Night – Ms. Deras
Students played Sight Word Swat, Sight Words Bingo, and Headbanz. These interactive games added a fun, competitive twist to word recognition, with Headbanz proving to be a favorite for all ages!
✨ Wear a Word – Ms. Delgado
Students created unique bracelets using beads to spell out their names or inspiring words. This hands-on activity allowed students to connect personal meaning to literacy.
🔠Scramble Words & Sentences – Ms. Castillo
In this station, students unscrambled words and sentences, then created reading trackers and bookmarks—great take-home tools to encourage continued reading.
🎡 Spin, Roll, Read – Ms. Tountas
Using spinners and dice, students practiced high-frequency words in a dynamic and playful format that made learning stick.
🖊️ Similes: Similar Corner – Ms. Naranjo
After listening to a read-aloud featuring similes, students wrote and illustrated their own creative comparisons, deepening their understanding of figurative language.
🔍 Story Scavenger Hunt – Ms. Baudry
Students searched for hidden parts of a story throughout the school. Once found, they assembled or identified a complete narrative—a fun and active way to understand story structure.
🎠Puppet Theater – Mr. Feinberg
Students explored story elements, used comic strips to plan scenes, created puppets, rehearsed, and performed original skits. A truly imaginative experience!
🎞️ Flip into Action – Ms. Cheng
Students assembled pre-drawn flipbooks and discovered how a series of images can come together to tell a story in motion.
Thank you to all the teachers, staff, students, and families who participated!
